The Montessori Infant/Toddler Unit
Dr. Maria Montessori spoke of the “absorbent mind” of the child and she observed in children their unique ability to learn to read, write and calculate in the same natural way they learn to walk and talk. The Montessori philosophy of education is one that fallows the natural development of the child. The children are drawn to the appropriate materials in the classroom at precisely the right time in order for them to acquire certain traits.
Dr. Montessori also observed the very young children learn best through a hands-on approach to education. She therefore developed materials for the classroom that invite the child to actively participate in the learning experience.
